Sandemans New Europe Walking Tours

Last week I went on a holiday with my boyfriend as he’s in the UK visiting me from Australia. London was our first stop, followed by Paris. I’ve been to London a couple of times and have loved it more each time I visit. This time was no exception.
However, I’ve never been to Paris so I wanted to learn about it’s history and see all the sights when I first arrived.

We started off our trip with a Sandemans New Europe walking tour of Royal London. I’ve been on their FREE waking tours before and have never been disappointed so I knew I’d want to do another on this trip.
This tour in London covers all the main sights and stories including:

  • Covent Garden
  • Trafalgar Square
  • Buckingham Palace
  • Big Ben
  • Westminster Abbey
  • Houses of Parliament

just to name a few!

The free tour of Paris includes:

  • Notre Dame de Paris
  • View of the Eiffel Tower
  • Haussmann’s Paris
  • View of the Pont Alexandre III
  • Latin Quarter
  • View of the Champs-Elysées
  • View of the Opéra Garnier
  • View of the Arc de Triomphe
  • The Louvre

and many more!

It takes about 2½ – 3 hours to cover everything but you’re not walking the entire time – you stop at most locations and get the run down of the stories and history so you get to take a break from walking and take some snaps.

The tours of London and Paris were my third and forth tour (I’ve also done Edinburgh and Dublin) I’ve done with Sandemans and I absolutely love them. Here’s why:

First of all its completely free! What more could you want in an expensive city like London or anywhere in Europe for that matter)?! The philosophy behind the company is to turn guided tours on their head and gives the tour-goers the opportunity to decide for themselves what they think the tour was worth. At the end of the tour, your tour guide will tell you that they don’t get paid by the company and they earn a living from the tips they receive from the generous tourists on the tour. This means you decide how much they receive based on the quality of the tour guide so it’s entirely up to you! You can pay as little (nothing) or as much as you like. And if you really enjoyed it, you can do their other tours that you do have to pay for but are well worth it!

The next thing I like about the tours is that it is the perfect thing to do when you arrive in a new city and want to see all the major cites and learn a bit of history about where you are. I  would recommend it to anyone who is travelling solo or anyone going to the major cities in Europe, even if you’ve been before – you can always learn something new. It’s a great way to see the major tourist attractions in the city without wandering around with a confusing map or trying to work out the transport system on the first day. This will help get your bearings of where everything in the city is and what you’d like to go back to and see.

Finally, it’s a nice way to meet other travelers on the tour. At the start of the tour, the tour guide always asks each person/couple/group what country they are from. You might be surprised to meet someone from your home country and make a new friend, or meet someone from the other side of the world and exchange travel stories.

I would definitely recommend the Sandemans New Europe free walking tours to anyone that loves travelling to new places, learning a little history and seeing the sights!
